Vail Mountain Rescue and the Summit County Rescue Group are
currently searching for a missing snowmobiler in the Vail Pass
area. The snowmobiler made a 911 call at 4:30 pm on Sunday, which
was received by Eagle County dispatch. He stated that his
snowmobile was stuck and he had snowboarded away from his
snowmobile. He had been snowmobiling from Red Cliff on his way back
to the Vail Pass rest area, where his truck is parked. At 5:00 pm
he made a second 911 call and stated that he was still stuck and
would try to snowboard and/or walk. There has been no further
contact with him since then, but his truck is still parked on Vail
Pass.
A team of snowmobilers from Vail Mountain Rescue searched until
midnight in the Turkey Creek Road area. A team of snowmobilers from
Summit County Rescue Group began searching at 1:00 am Monday
morning in the same area. At 7:00 am, multiple Summit County Rescue
Group teams were dispatched from Vail Pass to begin searching the
Fowler Hilliard hut area and the Hornsilver Mountain Road on
snowmobiles, skis and snowshoes.
Vail Pass recreationalists are asked to be on the lookout for this
missing person today. His name is Erik Tucker, 26 years old, from
Elbert, Colorado. He is 5 feet 11 inches tall, 175 pounds, with red
hair and blue eyes. Anyone with any relevant information is asked
to call 970-668-8600 in Summit County, or to bring the information
to the Summit County Rescue Group command truck parked at the Vail
Pass rest area.
