SCRG membership includes the following categories:

Potential: This is a person who has attended some of our meetings and expressed interest in joining the group.  A potential member is welcome to attend Wednesday night classroom training events, but may not attend field events yet, for liability reasons.

Prospective: A prospective member has completed new member paperwork and is currently attending a new member class.  For more information about our new membership program, see the How to Join tab.

Probationary: A probationary member has completed a new membership class, passed the final practical, and completed all required items on the new membership checklist.  Probationary members may attend missions, and will be evaluated for active status at the end of six months.

Active: An active member is a member who has successfully completed six months of probationary status, met all attendance requirements during the period, and been voted to active status by the board of directors.

Team Leader: A team leader has been an active member of the group for at least two years, and has completed a number of additional requirements and been voted as a team leader by the mission coordinators.  Team leaders perform as field leaders during missions, and assist in the training and mentoring of newer members.

Mission Coordinator: A mission coordinator has completed a number of additional training and performance requirements, and has accepted a place in the on-call rotation schedule.  Mission coordinators are the first point of contact to assess 911 calls and determine whether an "all-call" is needed.  Mission coordinators then act as incident commanders for the mission.

Veteran Rescuer: A veteran rescuer is a member who has completed 15 years of service with the Summit County Rescue Group, either continuously or in the aggregate.  In recognition of this length of service, a veteran rescuer is no longer subject to the attendance requirements of the group, as long as s/he continues to participate at some level.

Board of Directors: Members of the board of directors are elected by the membership on an annual basis and may be elected from any category of membership at active or above.  There are six board positions:

  • President/group leader
  • Vice president/training director
  • Treasurer/finance director
  • Secretary/liaison director
  • Medical officer
  • Equipment director
